Boutique Hotel Pucic Palace
A magnificent renaissance residence protected by UNESCO is situated in the heart of Dubrovnik´s old city center – on the main square named after the famous Croatian poet Gundulic. Pucic Palace is surrounded with cultural sights, lively bars, artistic galleries, concert halls and a breathtaking pebble beach Banje only 300 m (a five-minute walk) from the hotel.
A renaissance palace converted into a high-class modern boutique hotel four centuries later was built for Dubrovnik aristocracy and has that reputation today – film stars, famous politicians and all those who love to see the blend of luxury and culture.
The Palace offers 17 luxury rooms on 4 floors and 2 suites in the mansard. The hallways and reception are designed as a tribute to the grand Dubrovnik history with exhibited museum and local artists’ specimens. The rooms do not have dull number signs but carry the names of famous Croatian poets, writers and musicians.
The interior in every room is a combination of aristocratic touches, lavish luxury and comfort. The rooms boast with authentic aristocratic interior like oak wood and olive tree floors, high ceilings, wood timber and stone walls while having all the latest technology: air-conditioning, DVD and CD player, SAT TV, Wi-Fi, mini bar, blow drier, safe, additional beds for the 3rd or 4th person, a cot, amazingly soft bedding, towels and bathrobes made of fine Egyptian cotton.
Morning light coming through large well-isolated renaissance windows will softly caress you and the view from the room towards the Gundulic square will fascinate you (half the rooms face the other side, towards a narrow street).
Spacious bathrooms are a real treat having Italian mosaic tiles, a shower (“rain shower”), a self-standing bath tub in retro style and luxury accessories for your own personal body treatment (Bvlgari). The icing on the cake is a heated towel stand.
Rooms for 1 person have either a double bed (140x200) or a single bed (100x200). They are 25m2 large and have a bath tub and a shower in the bathroom.
Rooms for 2 persons measure between 25m2 and 30 m2 and have a place for and additional bed or a cot apart from the double bed (180x200). They too have an en suite bathroom with separate bath tub and shower.
Family room for 4-5 persons (2+2+ a cot) is a larger hotel room which has a possibility of 2 additional beds for children and a cot apart from the double bed. It also has an en suite bathroom with a bath tub and a shower.
Suite for 2 persons is situated at the top of the hotel and measures 42 m2 having a charming balcony with a view of the Gundulic square apart from a spacious room with a double bed and a desk. The room is intended for 2 persons.
Luxury apartment for 2 persons in situated on top of the hotel, measuring 53m2. It is comprised of a separate bedroom with a double bed and a separate living room. A special feature in this apartment on the top of the hotel is the bathroom where you can find a jacuzzi as well as a shower. The apartment is intended for 2 persons.
Free parking area is available with previous booking.
Royally spoiled
Daily newspaper, room service, elevator, organized transport to the airport, special trip offers, private yacht rental, two exquisite restaurants and a wine & whiskey bar next to the hotel, massages as well as uncovering ancient Dubrovnik legends with the help of wonderful staff appreciated even by the most artistic visitor of this renaissance palace.
Breakfast a la carte
The delicious a la carte breakfast (table service) is included in the price. You can order it to your room (free of charge) or enjoy it on the sunny 1st floor terrace or the square where you can observe the hustle and bustle of the market. Breakfast will give you almost anything your heart desires: an omelet, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, a range of cheese and delicious home-made prosciutto.
BEACH AND SURROUNDINGS
Although boutique hotel Pucic Palace is situated in the very heart of historical Dubrovnik, you will only need a five-minute walk (300 m) to the beautiful Banja beach. The fact that this is a large city beach means that it also has a number of visitors. However, the guests of Pucic Palace hotel don’t need to be a part of the crowd – a special part of the beach is reserved especially for them, so once again you feel like a true aristocrat when you lie down on the fantastic comfortable sun beds with a shade only by giving the name of your room and a coupon given to you with a fresh beach towel at reception. According to Skyscanner, Banja beach was one of the world’s top 5 beaches in 2009!
Gundulic square is one of the most beautiful parts of Dubrovnik and is located right behind the famous church of St. Blaise. There is a small local market on the square in the morning and in the evening it is transformed into a glamorous setting, ideal for observation as you enjoy your mouth-watering dinner.
ACTIVITIES
A few things you can do in Dubrovnik and its surroundings:
- Take a stroll along the old town and the famous Stradun street full of bars and coffee houses to the old harbour and Pile city gates (the whole old town is a walking zone only).
- Take a walk along the impressive city walls (app. 2 km long) and enjoy the spectacular views of the red Dubrovnik rooftops and the breathtaking blue of the Adriatic Sea.
- Visit the numerous cultural monuments from medieval and baroque buildings to cathedrals, churches and Europe’s oldest pharmacy.
- Be the ‘in crowd’ on comfortable and shaded sun beds on the VIP area on one of the most beautiful European beaches, only 5 minutes from the hotel.
- Treat yourself by visiting a classical music concert at the prince’s palace or enjoy the excellent drama performance of Shakespeare’s Hamlet on the platform of the magnificent fortress Lovrijenac during the Dubrovnik summer games.
- Take a boat trip to the mystical island of Lokrum and enjoy in unspoiled nature, take a swim, sunbathe and just before the sun sets have a snack and treat yourself to a local speciality.
- You could join the favourite activity of Dubrovnik locals: sit in the cafes and observe the passing enthusiastic tourists and test yourself: how many sweets can you resist?
All the above activities can be enriched with different rips by boats (organized for larger groups) or with a private yacht rental which will take you to the nearby Elaphite islands or the famous natural park on the island of Mljet. Top gastronomy, excellent wines, historical locations, museums, galleries, guided tours of Dubrovnik, sailing (day trips), scuba diving, snorkeling and different festivals, celebrations and different local parties throughout the year ensure you don’t only enjoy Dubrovnik during the summer but the whole year round (perhaps even more then during the summer as the city is filled with tourists, however, it is during the summer the famous Dubrovnik festival takes place). We highly recommend you visit Dubrovnik at least a few times during your lifetime!
BOUTIQUE HOTEL PUCIC PALACE THROUGH TANJA’S EYES
It is never easy for Dubrovnik lovers to give an objective impression of this wonderful boutique hotel. The fact that you are staying in the very heart of Dubrovnik (there are only 2 hotels within the city walls) and everything you need is at your fingertips is the key advantage of Boutique Hotel Pucic Palace.
The interior of the Palace dates back to the times of the Venetian Republic and Turkish occupation revealing itself in silk and velvet curtains adorning the large windows, exquisite rugs, stone walls, a marble stairway and other elements bearing witness to the outstanding people who used to dwell here.
It is the touches of modern comfort like watching a DVD in an exceptionally comfortable bed with soft bedding that take this experience to a higher level, making it an outstanding vacation in this breathtaking city by the sea.
I was completely taken with the bathroom having always imagined this is how Clopatra’s bathroom would look like while she bathed in wine. A self-standing bath, mosaic tiles, a soft bathrobe and slippers make a person fell like royalty. Not to mention the pebble beach where you can lay comfortably in the VIP salon and enjoy away from the crowds while you order a beach massage.
All this luxury must inevitably posses another component for pure pleasure: excellent food. Two restaurants owned by the hotel will impress you not only with its ambiance but also with an exceptional attitude and delicious food, a mixture of Mediterranean cuisine (fresh fish, octopus salad, fish carpaccio, Dalmatian prosciutto, sheep cheese) and French cuisine (lamb chop, onion soup, fois gras, etc.). All those who love whiskey, cigars and exquisite wine will discover a perfect ambiance in the rustic wine salon.
The only weakness of the hotel is the fact that the lower-floor rooms do not have a view of the sea (only the upper-floor rooms facing the Gundulic square do). The nearest parking area is 200 m away (vehicles do not have entrance to the old town, which is understandable) and although there is not a spa area in the hotel, all you have to do is let the staff know about your wish and they will book it for you in the nearby hotel. You can even order a massage in your room!
And last but certainly not least: all those who are married will want to renew their vows the second you see the lovely private chapel on the terrace of the 1st floor used for weddings and a library with comfortable sofas for reading on the terrace. Charming!
